Vince Lombardi, one of the greatest career coaches, would start every season training the basics. It did not make a difference if it was a player’s first year or their fifth, he started with the basics.

Professional automobile salespeople follow a similar pattern – the basics. In selling cars there is rarely a second chance to close. If your income is based on commission and you do not get it right the first time, you will go hungry.

Alternatively, if you have the stamina to stick it through, with an effective automobile selling strategy focused on selling cars, you will not only close more sales you will be in the highest potential income bracket there is.

I did it. And I am not a sales guy. My background is logistics and distribution. I liked moving stuff around – air, ground, ocean. But business had another plan for me. My employer invited me to breakfast one day to say “The Company is restructuring.” I was not part of the reorganization! That was the start of a new career.

What did I do? I started my own business marketing point-of-sale devices. While building that business, I discovered the earning potential for commission salespeople is unmatched.

So what. Why listen to me?

I am going to share selling skills that closed more deals than other more experienced, more seasoned, more knowledgeable salespeople.

I sold that point-of-sale business and purposely moved into car sales. What is significant is that I took automobile salesman positions in communities where I had no ties, no background, no contacts. I chose those locations to demonstrate the selling tips I studied and practiced could be duplicated. And they were. In each car salesman position, I moved to the top one percent.

What is important is that it is all about sticking to the basics. And it starts right here, right now, with you. Oh, and just in case you are wondering, I am still selling cars. All that you will find here is practiced daily, face-to-face, in the trenches.
